I’ve been photographing weddings for 8 years now and, more often than not, I have to be on the dance floor near the DJ or the speakers to get the best shots. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older or maybe it’s because all the DJs and bands have come together and collectively decided to make reception music louder. Either way, I noticed a change in my hearing weekend after weekend. I’d never given any earplugs a try previously, so after seeing some suggestions and doing some research, I purchased Loop earplugs. Let me start by saying this may be one of the best investments that I’ve ever made, not just for myself but for my business.
It was during my summer weddings after I had gotten back from France (I really wish I had them on the plane) when I bought them. I purchased two pairs, the Quiet and the Experience+. I used the Experience+ Loop Earplugs in my next wedding and what a difference! At the beginning of the reception, I took them out just to see how much louder it was and put them back in immediately. I don’t know how I ever shot a wedding reception without them. They are always on me at every wedding. I can still hear the music, the MC, and my second shooter.
It’s not just weddings. I also went to the Jonas Brother’s concert at Yankee Stadium in August. They put on a great show, but more importantly, I could hear them without hurting my ears. There is no way that I could have ever sat through that without my Loop Earplugs.
While sounds don’t bother me too much, I sometimes have sensory overload. It comes with having ADHD and cannot concentrate for the life of me. Whether I am sitting down to write or trying to get my admin work done, the Experience+ Loop Earplugs really drowns out the noise so I can focus. If you get sensory overload, then you know what I mean. With my Loop Experience+ Earplugs, I hear everything, just less loud.
As I mentioned above, I bought the Quiet, too. Honestly, I don’t need them to sleep too much except for when I am staying anywhere that isn’t home. However, what I love them for is during car trips. When I am the passenger, it drowns out all the road noise. That’s another reason I wish I had them on my 8+ hour flight across the ocean. Next time that I get on a plane, you can bet I will have my earplugs ready.
